ONTARIO LEGISLATURE PAYS TRIBUTE TO CHARLIE TATHAM

September 13, 2016

QUEEN’S PARK –Today MPPs from all three parties rose in the Ontario Legislature to pay tribute to former Oxford MPP Charlie Tatham.

“Charlie was a true gentlemen and everyone who knew him – and served with him – was better for it,” said Ernie Hardeman, Oxford MPP during the tribute. “The people of Oxford and the people of Ontario were better for the fact that Charlie served.”

During the tribute the many contributions of Tatham were recognized by MPPs Ernie Hardeman, Jim Bradley and Catherine Fife. They also recognized Tatham’s commitment to the people of Oxford and his poetry.

As well, Hardeman talked about the fact that Tatham had stayed involved after retirement and the many phone calls that people in Oxford had received from him after he moved to British Columbia

“Being on the far side of the Country didn’t stop Charlie from having opinions – and it didn’t keep him from being involved in Oxford politics for very long,” said Hardeman “When I was first elected every few months I would get a call from Charlie who had been reading the Woodstock Sentinel Review and wanted more information or to tell me how something should be done. I really valued those calls.”

Many members of Tatham’s family including his children – Pat, Charlene and Peter – and several family friends were at the Ontario Legislature for the tribute.

“I want to say thank you to them – and Charlie’s wife Millie – for sharing Charlie with the people of Oxford County,” said Hardeman.
