Hardeman New Critic For Municipal Affairs
QUEEN’S PARK – Jim Wilson, Interim Ontario PC Leader, announced that Ernie Hardeman, Oxford MPP, has been appointed official opposition critic for Municipal Affairs and Housing.
“During the recent campaign there were many questions raised about the relationship between our local municipal governments and the province,” said Hardeman. “I’m looking forward to working with our municipalities to ensure their voice is heard clearly at Queen’s Park.”
Hardeman has been asked to take on the role of Official Opposition Critic for Municipal Affairs and Housing based on his experience as Associate Minister of Municipal Affairs – Rural and his extensive involvement in municipal politics.
“As a former municipal councilor, Mayor and Warden I understand the importance of municipal government and the challenges that they face,” said Hardeman.
Prior to being elected provincially Ernie served as Mayor of South-West Oxford and Warden of Oxford County. He was also chair of the Warden’s Association of Ontario, chair of the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) and served on the board of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario for five years.
“We need to ensure that our municipalities are being respected,” said Hardeman. “And that there is a real understanding of the fact that all levels of government are being funded by the same taxpayer.”
