Hardeman Tables Hydro Petition

QUEEN’S PARK – Today in the Ontario Legislature Ernie Hardeman, MPP Oxford, tabled petitions calling on the government take immediate steps to reduce the total cost of electricity paid by Ontarians.

“The thousands of people who have signed this petition make it clear that hydro is causing real hardship for families,” said Hardeman. “The overwhelming response makes it clear that people don’t think an 8% rebate has solved the problem.”

Hardeman launched the petition to give constituents a way to share the message that they can’t afford the rising hydro costs. 1,000 people signed the petition in the first eight hours.

“I’ve heard from a number of people that their hydro bills are now higher than their mortgage payments,” said Hardeman. “Even sadder are the people who are forced to choose between buying food or clothing that their kids need or spending that money to pay the hydro bill.”

Hardeman is encouraging people to continue signing the petitions by going to his website www.ErnieHardemanMPP.com or his office at 12 Perry Street, Woodstock.

“I will continue to raise this issue in the Legislature and table more petitions until the government understands the impact that these hydro costs are having on Ontario families,” said Hardeman.  “I want to thank everyone who has shared their hydro story with me or took the time to sign the petition.”
