Oxford Business Survey shows Government policy not creating jobs

QUEEN’S PARK – Ernie Hardeman, Oxford MPP, today during a statement in the Legislature said the results of his recent business survey show that current government policies are not helping businesses to expand and grow.

“Our business people work to make their companies succeed but the message in their responses is that this government is holding them back,” said Hardeman. “71% of businesses said there is more red tape today than there was four years ago.”

On average respondents said they spend more than 215 hours per year on government forms and paperwork.

“95% of respondents are very concerned about the deficit, but it’s clear from their responses that postponing tax cuts will only increase our fiscal problems,” said Hardeman. “When asked what they would do with the money from reduced taxes 78% of respondents said they would use it to expand and hire more people or invest in equipment and infrastructure.”

During his statement Hardeman also commended businesses for their efforts to shop locally. On average respondents made over 63% of their purchases locally.

Ernie Hardeman recently mailed the survey to businesses across Oxford. Businesses that did not receive the mailing, but would like to share their thoughts can complete the survey at www.ErnieHardemanMPP.com/business.

“I want to thank all the business people in Oxford who took the time to respond and I hope the government will take the time to listen to their advice,” said Hardeman.
