$40,000 OTF Grant Restores Floors at Badminton Club

Woodstock, ON – On Saturday, local MPP Ernie Hardeman met with the team at the Woodstock Badminton Club to hear more about the $40,000 Capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) that was used to restore the unique wooden floors for the 4 badminton/pickleball courts of the Woodstock Badminton Club’s century-old building. The project was completed in August 2023 and will give people in the Woodstock community continued access to programs and events at one of the oldest continuous recreation facilities in Oxford County for years to come.

“This is wonderful news for our community,” said Ernie Hardeman, MPP for Oxford. “These funds not only help the club maintain its unique facility but allows for the ongoing enjoyment of members and visitors.”

In addition to the restoration of the wooden floors, accessibility upgrades included the addition of a raised staircase at the primary entrance and modifications to existing stair access at a secondary access point. The Centre is used by a variety of community organizations for recreation, training, and competitions. And thanks to the $40,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, people of all abilities will be able to enjoy the lifelong sports of Badminton and Pickleball.

“The impact of this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant cannot be overstated,” said Terry Dunnigan, Past President of the Woodstock Badminton Club. “This grant has allowed needed renovations to be made. The life of our courts has been significantly extended and the unique wooden floors will continue to benefit the play of all members, visiting competitors, schools, and local agencies. We also want to congratulate the Ontario Trillium Foundation on 40 years of granting and building healthy and vibrant communities across the province.”

The Woodstock Badminton Club is committed to preserving this historical space and ensuring that it remains accessible for many community activities over the course of the year and well into our 100^th Anniversary as a sporting/recreation facility.
